Visiting Bouzy, a Grand Cru Village in Champagne
A Grand Cru village devoted to Pinot Noir, at the foot of the Montagne de Reims.
Bouzy in a few words
Bouzy is one of the seventeen villages classified Grand Cru in Champagne, a status reserved for the appellation's most highly rated terroirs. Set at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, about ten kilometres north-east of Épernay and twenty kilometres south of Reims, the village has long been associated with Pinot Noir, the signature grape of this south-facing chalk terroir.
Vineyards surround the village on nearly every side, home to numerous family-run houses that grow, vinify and sell their own wine — a grower-producer tradition that is more understated than that of the large houses based in Reims or Épernay, but just as old. It is in Bouzy that Champagne Arnaud Moreau crafts its cuvées, and where L'Iliade bed & breakfast welcomes guests, right in the heart of the village.
Beyond its champagne houses, Bouzy has a handful of places to eat and stay, along with modest but genuine local heritage. The village is easy to explore on foot, before heading out to the neighbouring villages of the Montagne de Reims (Ambonnay, Verzy, Verzenay) or to Épernay and its avenue de Champagne, about twenty minutes away by car.
This guide brings together the Bubbles Guide's active listings in Bouzy: champagne houses to visit, places to stay for a longer break, and the village's tables. Full listings — contact details, opening hours — are available from each venue below.
